France has been resolute on the fight against terrorism despite the terrorist attacks unleashed on Paris the state capital on Friday night of 13 November, 2015.
French fighter jets launched their biggest raids in Syria to date, targeting the Islamic state stronghold in Raqqa just two days after the ISIS claimed coordinate attacks in Paris that killed more than 130 people.
The French defence Ministry said; "The raid...including 10 fighter jets, was launched simultaneously from the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. Twenty bombs were dropped." The statement said, adding that the mission had taken place on Sunday evening.
The operation, carried out in coordination with US forces, struck a command centre, recruitment centre for Jihadists, a munitions depot and a training camp for fighters. The sites targeted had previously been identified on reconnaissance fights, the statement said.
Reports from activities inside Raqqa suggests that the airstrikes targets were known ISIS strongholds, including Division 17, an army base of the city that had since been under ISIS control since July 2014.
It was gathered from reports on intelligence that; the French retaliatory strikes were discussed between French defense minister, Jean Yves Le Drain and the US defense secretary, Ash Carter through phonecalls on Saturday and Sunday 14 & 15 November 2015.
