Reports from the Supreme court of Nigeria in Abuja is that the trial of the Senate President in the Code of Conduct Tribunal, has been halted.
This ruling is based on the Appeal filed by the Senate President against the proceedings at the CCT against him, and upon the refusal of the Court of Appeal to stop the CCT trial against him.
According to Vanguard's reports online, the Supreme Court in a ruling delivered earlier today, directed the Justice Danladi Umar led tribunal to suspend the trial of the Senate president at the CCT, to enable the Supreme Court to hear and determine the substantive appeal that Saraki lodged before it.
"In effect further proceedings at the CCT should be stayed pending the hearing of the appeal. Hearing date will be communicated to all the parties".
Justice Fabiyi ruled delivering the lead ruling at the supreme court earlier today which was also concurred with by the other presiding justices in the case.
In essence, the proceedings by the CCT against Saraki has been halted by this ruling, and there won't be further proceedings at the CCT pending when the substantive appeal at the Supreme Court is fully determined and concluded.
