BILLIONAIRE TYCOON BUYS WORLD MOST EXPENSIVE DIAMOND FOR HIS 7-YEAR OLD

A hong Kong Billionaire tycoon paid a total of $77 Million at a auction in Geneva for two large and rare coloured diamond for his 7-year-old daughter "Josephine" and renamed them after her.

Joseph Lau was the top bidder for the 12.03 Carat "Blue moon" diamond that sold Wednesday night for a record- setting 48.6 million swiss franc ($48.5 Million) said a spokeswoman for Lau. Lau promptly renamed the price gem "The Blue Moon of Josephine".

Lau was also the buyer of a 16.08 carat vivid pink diamond that sold for 28.7 Million Swiss Francs ($28.5 Million) auctioned at Christie's the night before. Joseph Lau renamed the diamond "Sweet Josephine".

The two diamond pieces were bought by Joseph Lau and renamed after his daughter "Josephine". Joseph Lau is a property developer with a fortune estimated by Forbes at $9.9 billion, has a habit of snapping up expensive gems for his children.

Josephine is his daughter with girlfriend and former aid "Chan Hoi-wan", according to local media. The 64 year old also has two other children with a long-time partner "Yvonne Lui".

In March 2014, Lau was found guilty of bribing a former minister in the gambling enclave of Macau in an attempt to purchase a prime development site. Lau who was not in Macau for the sentencing, is unlikely to serve time because the two semi-autonomous Chinese cities do not have an extradition agreement.

He was locked in a telephone bidding war for eight minutes for the "Blue moon", before the hammer went down, with the sale of the precious jewel staying within it's pre sale estimate of $35M - $55M.

The diamond was discovered in South Africa in January 2014 and was the largest cushion-shaped blue stone in the fancy vivid category to ever appear at auction.
